SRAM RED D1 Flattop 12-Speed Chain

The SRAM RED D1 Flattop Chain is a premium 12-speed road chain designed for SRAM's AXS road drivetrain platform.

Its distinctive Flattop construction creates a narrower chain profile while maintaining the strength and durability required for high-performance road riding. This Epic Cycles version includes 114 links and a SRAM PowerLock D1 connector.

SRAM Flattop Chain Technology

SRAM developed Flattop technology to create a narrower chain for its modern road drivetrain systems.

The distinctive flat upper profile allows additional clearance while contributing to quieter operation, increased strength and long-term durability.

Designed for 12-Speed Road Drivetrains

The RED D1 chain is specifically designed around SRAM Road Flattop 12-speed systems.

Its narrow profile and link geometry are engineered to work with compatible SRAM AXS road cassettes and chainrings for precise drivetrain performance.

HollowPin Construction

The SRAM RED D1 uses HollowPin construction to reduce unnecessary material while maintaining strength and efficiency.

This helps differentiate the RED chain from lower-tier Flattop chains that use solid pins.

Chrome and Nickel Link Finishes

The inner links use a chrome-plated finish, while the outer links use a nickel finish.

These surface treatments are designed to provide durable drivetrain performance across regular road riding and training conditions.

114-Link Chain

This Epic Cycles version of the SRAM RED D1 chain includes 114 links.

The chain can be sized during installation to match the specific drivetrain, chainring and cassette combination being used.

PowerLock D1 Connector Included

A SRAM PowerLock D1 connector is included with the chain for installation.

SRAM specifies that Flattop 12-speed road chains should be connected using the appropriate Flattop 12-speed PowerLock, rather than a connector intended for a different SRAM chain platform.

SRAM RED D1 vs Force D1 Chain

The RED D1 and Force D1 chains both use SRAM's Road Flattop technology and are designed for compatible 12-speed road drivetrains.

The RED D1 differentiates itself with HollowPin construction, whereas the Force D1 uses solid pins.

This makes the RED D1 the more weight-focused option within SRAM's D1 road chain range.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the SRAM RED D1 Chain 12-speed?

Yes. This version is a 12-speed Road Flattop chain designed for compatible SRAM road drivetrains.

How many links does the SRAM RED D1 Chain have?

This Epic Cycles version includes 114 links.

Does the SRAM RED D1 Chain include a PowerLock?

Yes. It includes the appropriate SRAM PowerLock D1 connector.

What is SRAM Flattop technology?

Flattop uses a distinctive chain-plate shape that allows SRAM to create a narrower road chain while maintaining strength, durability and quiet drivetrain operation.

What is the difference between SRAM RED D1 and Force D1 chains?

Both use Road Flattop technology, but the RED D1 uses HollowPin construction, while Force D1 uses solid pins.

Is the SRAM RED D1 Chain an Eagle Transmission chain?

No. This is a Road Flattop D1 chain. SRAM Eagle Transmission uses the separate T-Type chain platform and corresponding PowerLock.
